Fighting for True Equality: Ellen's Vision for a One-State Solution and UN Recognition of Palestine

Neighbors and friends in the 5th District, as we rally together for a Congress that puts justice and human rights first, let's be clear about Ellen's bold stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ellen wholeheartedly supports a one-state solution—one democratic state from the river to the sea, where Israelis and Palestinians live as equals with full citizenship rights, regardless of religion or ethnicity. This isn't about erasing identities; it's about building a shared future in a binational or secular democratic framework that ends occupation, dismantles settlements, and guarantees self-determination for all. And central to this vision? Immediate UN recognition of Palestine as a full sovereign state, paving the way for equality and peace. Palestine is already recognized by 157 UN member states—over 80% of the world—as of late 2025, with recent additions like France, the UK, Canada, and Australia. But full UN membership is stalled, and Ellen will fight in Congress to push the U.S. to join the global consensus, recognizing Palestine's right to statehood as a step toward a unified, just solution.

Why this path? The so-called two-state solution—long pushed by insiders like our current rep, Mike Quigley—has failed. Quigley talks a big game about recognizing a Palestinian state and a two-state peace, but his record shows unwavering support for Israel's military actions, even amid the devastation in Gaza. He's called for U.S. recognition of Palestine, sure, but only within a framework that props up endless conflict and ignores the realities on the ground: expanding settlements, displacement, and inequality. Ellen knows we can't keep funding billions in aid that fuels this cycle while pretending separate states will magically work. A one-state solution, inspired by voices like Palestinian author Ali Abunimah and Israeli journalist Gideon Levy, addresses the core issues—land, resources, Jerusalem, and refugees—equitably. It's the pragmatic alternative to a fractured "peace" that's left Palestinians suffering for decades.

In Chicago's diverse 5th District, we understand that true security comes from equality, not division. Ellen's campaign is about breaking free from lobbies like AIPAC that prioritize foreign interests over American values. We'll advocate for UN reforms to grant Palestine full membership, end U.S. complicity in occupation, and build toward that one-state reality where everyone thrives. Join us—let's elect Ellen to Congress and lead with courage for a just world. Together, we'll make it happen!
